ADVANCE 70 – Design Your Own Windows and Doors!
When you are looking to upgrade your existing windows and doors, it can be very difficult to envisage how they may look in your home. Certain designs, colours and combinations may not entirely compliment the style, period or location of your home. Modern PVCu windows and doors now offer more designs, colours and options than ever before, providing you with a multitude of choices. As the homeowner, how do you know if a particular design or colour will compliment the style of your home?
One of the UK’s leading PVCu windows and door profile system company’s, Selecta Systems, have recently launched a website entirely focused on the homeowners needs. www.advance70.co.uk provides a wealth of information and guidance regarding the Birmingham based extruders window and doors solutions. The aptly named, ADVANCE 70 in the home website provides visitors with information on the qualities of the company’s flagship and industry leading window and door solution, the ADVANCE 70 Window and Door System.
What is really exciting, are the two new features that provide you, as a homeowner, with the tools to not only find your approved local installer, but also provides you with the facility to design your own windows and doors. The innovative window and door designing software solution demonstrates it’s true value to you, the homeowner, when you upload images of your home and start using the home visualiser function!
Designing Your Own Windows and Doors
The Window and Door Designer and Home Visualiser has the complete range of Selecta window and door solutions, from casement, flush sash and tilt and turn windows through to residential, French, patio and EASi-FOLD doors. It also includes a range of composite doors, so you have a varied range of products, styles and configurations to choose from to improve your home.
The whole design and enquiry process is purposely kept simple. As a homeowner, you can select a number of window and door configurations and styles, choose the internal and external colour, the hardware colour and other glazing options like Georgian bar or leaded glass. The real beauty of the designer is that you can take photos of your home, upload them in to the home visualiser and drop your newly designed windows and doors on to your home to envisage how they would look!
With grey windows and doors continuing to dominate the market, it is a colour that doesn’t necessarily work with every style of property and brick colour. The benefit of being able to design your windows and doors, uploading photos of your home and using the home visualiser, is that you can change the colour and style of the windows and doors until you create a design and colour that compliments your home.
When you consider that you are investing a large sum of money when upgrading your windows and doors, it’s only right that you are able to visualise how they will fit in to the make-up of your home. It’s also worth remembering the right combination and colour of your windows and doors can add kerb appeal and increase value, but get it wrong and it can have an adverse affect!
The designer also works for all types of buildings, where you require windows and doors. Upgrade your holiday home, garden room, log cabin, summer house, man-cave or boat, by designing your required windows and doors and uploading an image of your build to visualise how they would look. Selecta have a number of window and door specialist partners that provide window and solutions within these areas.
Submit Your Design for Quotation
Once you are happy with your newly designed windows and doors, you can submit it as an enquiry direct to Selecta. A copy of your design will be emailed to yourself, with the internal team at Selecta assigning your design enquiry to your local approved fabricator / installer. With well over 250 approved fabricators / installers located across the UK, Selecta will only share your enquiry with one local supply partner. They will contact you to either quote and / or arrange a more detailed survey to determine your more specific requirements and options available to you.
You can in-turn utilise the Find a Fabricator / Installer feature upon the ADVANCE 70 in the home website to locate as many approved fabricator / installers as you wish, contacting at your will, using your PDF design as a template for your enquiry. This provides you with total control over the number of quotes you wish to receive to further your enquiry.

Modern Doors – A Lifestyle Choice
The developments in door design, over the last few years, have truly whet the appetite of the homeowner as they seek to improve the versatility and kerb appeal of their home. Selecta Systems Marketing Manager, Mark Walker, describes how the advancement in doors has led to them becoming more of a lifestyle choice and design statement.
What we should remember, first and foremost, is that an entrance door to any home has to serve three main purposes; to act as a welcome to the homeowner, family and friends, to keep unwanted visitors out and also to protect the property from inclement weather. However, homeowners are now looking for more from their doors, with greater expectations on styles and colours, as they look to not only enhance kerb appeal, improve the space and light in their home, but they also need to fit in with the homeowners lifestyle.
The events of the last 18 months or so has certainly demonstrated this, as the home and garden improvement boom gripped the nation. With restrictions on movement and more time spent within the home, people have been paying more attention to their property, spending more time in their gardens and it has generally changed the way they live. There is certainly more of an appreciation of the home and garden as homeowners look to add that ‘wow’ factor to their home or garden improvement project.
One of the greatest appeals of modern doors, on top of improved security and thermal performance, is colour choice. This has now given homeowners the opportunity to create a bespoke entrance to their home or garden that sits comfortably into the style, period and location of their property. So, whether it’s a classic Chartwell Green, Cream or wood grained effect or a modern Anthracite Grey, Black or smooth effect, there’s a comprehensive colour palette now available to blend into their home and make a style or design statement.
Homeowners have also a newfound desire to create a glass wall and panoramic view they are proud of and comfortable to live with – almost becoming a lifestyle choice. The opportunity to open up their living space and create large glazed walls is appealing, particularly when extending properties or when looking to open up the home to the outdoors.
The popularity of garden rooms, garden offices, summer houses and the proverbial man-cave have increased during these times as homeowners make use of their garden space, whether for work, relaxation or entertaining purposes. The style, colour and design of doors chosen during these projects vary in how the space is used and depending on its purpose and style. Speaking from a personal level, I’ve also caught the home and garden improvement bug! I’ve added my own man-cave / pub shed to my garden, where I installed our Advance 70 Anthracite Grey French doors to my build, providing me with a secure, thermally efficient and elegant entrance to my project.
So, whether it’s standard single leaf and French doors, sliding panoramic patio, bi-fold or Selecta’s EASi-FOLD doors, it now means that the type of door you choose can now be an integral part of your everyday life, be a design statement and add that elusive ‘wow’ factor to your home or garden build. With all these latest developments in doors, they are no longer seen as just an entrance to your property or build. They’ve become more than just a door. A chic choice to fit in with your newfound lifestyle, a security option to protect their family and home and an astute decision to improve energy performance and reduce energy bills. Modern doors are now a product that the fashion and technical conscious consumer is ready to invest in, open up their living space and create that grand entrance to their home or garden build.

“Our existing mahogany PVCu windows were experiencing issues and we looked at replacing them. We sourced a local installer whom offered ourselves the flush sash windows of which we loved the traditional timber look. The windows look fantastic in both the newer extension and existing part of our home. In fact the windows have now prompted us to spruce up the brickwork on the original section of our home! We’ve also noticed reduced road noise from the busy junction at the end of our property.”

Selecta – A Grand Entrance!
With the emergence of a number of TV programmes, like Grand Designs, these have whet the appetite of the home improvement customer whilst enhancing the appeal of creating a grand entrance to their homes. Selecta Systems Sales Director, Andy Green, talks about how doors have evolved, from being just a door, as fabricators and installers take advantage and look forward to opening up new doors of opportunity.
The entrance to any home serves three main purposes; to act as a welcome to the homeowner, family and friends, to keep unwanted visitors out and also to protect the property from inclement weather. The latter two have improved considerably over the years, with PAS 24 and Secured by Design standards, whilst energy ratings have set the mould when it comes to thermal performance. Security, thermal performance and weather performance are now a given and are expected, but for the homeowner, expectations have grown as they look about enhancing kerb appeal and providing that wow factor.
Long gone are the days when a panelled PVCu door, available in White, Mahogany or Golden Oak, were suffice to satisfy the market. The number of door options and styles has grown considerably, thus giving the home owner greater choice. This has also created a line of new businesses offering just doors, such is the appeal and consumer demand, as the door market continues to grow.
One of the greatest appeals of modern doors is colour choice, as this now gives homeowners the opportunity to really create a bespoke and grand entrance to their home, their own personal touch, setting them apart from neighbouring properties. Combined with a comprehensive range of door styles, glass designs, hardware and furniture options, entrance doors have become more than just an add-on, they are an in demand commodity driven by the homeowners desire to create an entrance they are proud of and comfortable to live with.
To assist fabricators within this keenly fought market, Selecta have exclusively launched to our fabricators a composite door kit, comprising of a pre-routed slab, TriSys glazing cassette, choice of locks, hardware and furniture with glass options, all packaged up ready for the fabricator to hang in our own standard Advance 70 door frame. This improves delivery, cost effectiveness and stock holding, plus providing greater control over efficiencies and quality. This, we believe, provides fabricators with a far more effective solution to supply both the trade and retail customer and take advantage of a growth market.
The same can be said for panoramic sliding door solutions as homeowners look to create their own grand design. The opportunity to open up their living space and create large glazed walls is appealing, particularly when extending properties. The patio door is going through a renaissance period, whilst the introduction of swing and slide panoramic doors, like the EASi-FOLD Doors, have captured the imagination of the home improvers. The innovative and revolutionary EASi-FOLD Doors are an alternative to a bi-fold door and are appropriately named because of the simplicity of operation, with each sash sliding independently and folding in to place alongside the master door. It’s these kind of innovations that give the home improvement market a new and fresh approach to standard offerings as consumers look for the latest advancements in pioneering product design to improve their home and lifestyle.
Doors are no longer an add-on to a property. They’ve become more than just a door. A chic choice to fit in with their lifestyle. A security option to protect their family and home. A thermally efficient decision to reduce energy bills. They’re a product that the fashion and technical conscious consumer is ready to invest in and create that grand entrance to their home.
